Choristers is a training program comprised of children in grades 2-3. Rehearsals begin with a warm-up activity to refocus after a day of school followed by a short sight-reading time.
During the weekly rehearsal process, singers learn the music tools needed in preparation for performance. Through community-building games, playing percussion instruments and simple folk dances, children learn the value of being part of a community of learners.
For many of the children, this is the first musical performing experience. Some children may have piano or stringed instrument lessons, but music reading is not expected. Singers are expected to “match pitch” and work respectfully and courteously with peers and adults.
