TYC has been a part of our family for about 3 decades. It all started when my mother, Phyllis Kollar marched my son Christopher into an audition when he was about 8 years old. Without getting into all of the detail, Christoper spent the next decade in TYC where he went to Europe with the choir and was in all choirs by the time he graduated from high school, including the Men’s Choir (now the Tenor-Bass Choir). When my mother passed away, we pulled out a bunch of the recordings of concert performances, picked 4 pieces, and put an alumni TYC choir together to sing at the funeral. The choir was directed by Alonso Brizuela with young Christopher on the piano. Judy Herrington was at that funeral, which led to an invitation to become one of the collaborative pianists for TYC. At Gift of Song this last December 13th, 2025, I had the unique pleasure of seeing my son Christopher and his little sister Ayslyn perform together with TYC. Christopher played pipe organ to music that Ayslyn performed with the rest of the choir. Their grandparents would be proud as certainly I am. Thank you to TYC for the whirlwind experiences for my parents and my children on a journey that continues today.
